Tottenham ‘have not given up’ on their hopes of agreeing terms on a new contact with Christian Eriksen, according to the Times.

Eriksen has just one year left on his current deal and has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid. The Dane started on the bench in Spurs’ Premier League opener against Aston Villa on Saturday. His introduction changed the game as Mauricio Pochettino’s side came from a goal down to beat the newly-promoted visitors 3-1 at the new stadium.

The Times claims Eriksen is still attracting interest from Real Madrid, as well as Juventus. The European transfer window closes at the end of the month, so he has plenty of time to secure a move to one of those clubs before the deadline.

Tottenham will apparently demand around £50 million for Eriksen, but the club still believes they may be able to tie their playmaker down to a new contract.

However, the Times suggests that eventuality is unlikely. Eriksen’s position gets stronger as his contract gets nearer to expiring, so signing a new deal would ultimately make things more difficult for him to secure an exit in the future.

Only time will tell whether the 27-year-old is willing to stay at Spurs beyond next summer.

  1. No quotes just speculation…a contract with a release clause for 2 European Clubs Real and Barca and he would sign a 3 yr contract no fuss….just insert a 60 M release clause for his preferred destinations
