Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that he continue to pick Tottenham players regardless of their current contract situations.

It’s a massive u-turn from the Argentine, who didn’t include Danny Rose in his squad for the club’s pre-season tour of the Far East, left Christian Eriksen on the bench against Aston Villa on Saturday and then completely excluded Jan Vertonghen from his matchday squad against the Premier League new boys, although he later revealed that was due to his lack of fitness.

Elsewhere, Toby Alderweireld, who looked likely to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium prior to his £25m release clause expiring, played 90 minutes in their league opener and is expected to stay at the club, even with the European transfer window still open.

And Pochettino has provided Tottenham fans with further good news, as according to the Express, his team selections for upcoming games will not be affected by players with uncertainties surrounding their future, meaning we can expect to see the former Ajax trio and Rose all starting against Manchester City this weekend.

  1. It’s not just a fitness thing. It’s understanding the way the team plays and knowing others games too.
Lo Celso will have few cameos until up to speed, won’t be starting just yet.
Ndombele had a preseason so knows a lot more what’s expected of him, and still looked a spare part in first half against villa.
