Mauricio Pochettino hailed the use of VAR after Manchester City had a last minute winner ruled out against Tottenham.

City dominated the contest at the Etihad but Spurs twice struck back through Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura after goals from Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero.

Jesus appeared to win it for the hosts in stoppage time, but after wild celebrations the goal was ruled out for an Aymeric Laporte own goal.

Asked about the incident by Sky Sports immediately after the game, Pochettino said: “I am in love with VAR!”

The Argentinian went on to explain that football needs to accept the new technology, whether or not it benefits his side.

An identical moment occurred in the Champions League quarter-final clash between the sides last season when Raheem Sterling had a dramatic late goal ruled out for an offside call against Sergio Aguero.

And just like last time, there were no initial appeals from the Tottenham players as the infringement was not clear before the VAR intervened.

Lucas scored the second equaliser just 19 seconds after coming off the bench, earning the highest score in our player ratings – find out how every Spurs player rated here.
