Tottenham might have a new celebrity fan coming their way and he needs no introduction to English sports supporters after his heroics kept England’s Ashes hopes alive on Sunday afternoon.
While Spurs were preparing for their Premier League game against Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Ben Stokes was on his way to smashing an incredible 135* – one of the best test innings ever seen – to bring England level in the five-match series.
Stokes, who also played a match-winning innings as England claimed their first ever World Cup at Lords last month, doesn’t support a football team, but after seeing the way that Tottenham fans celebrated his winning moment against the Aussies, suggested his mind may be made up.
When Stokes struck Pat Cummins for four runs to secure victory, the new Spurs stadium erupted like the Lilywhites had scored a goal, unfortunately for Mauricio Pochettino, that would prove to be the loudest cheer of the afternoon.
You can see those wonderful scenes and Stokes’ interview with Sky Sports’ Rob Key.
Re-live the drama from the 3⃣rd #Ashes Test with a one-hour programme tonight at 9.30pm!
