Fernando Llorente has admitted he is seeking revenge for Tottenham when his new side Napoli take on Liverpool in the Champions League this week.

The striker played a key role in Spurs’ journey to the final last season, scoring crucial goals against Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City in the knockout stages before being involved in Lucas Moura’s famous winner at Ajax in the semi-final second leg.

After leaving Tottenham at the end of his contract in June, Llorente signed for Italian side Napoli, who were subsequently drawn in the same Champions League group as Liverpool.

And the Spaniard says the chance to get revenge against the team that beat Spurs in the final will be part of his motivation on Tuesday.

Asked if he wants revenge, Llorente said (via Tutto Mercato Web): “It was painful to lose the final, certainly revenge, but above all it is an opportunity to show that we can stay at their level. We have to play at a high level.”

The 34-year-old made the perfect start to his Napoli career, providing an assist in a 2-0 league victory over Sampdoria on his debut. He’ll hope for another exciting season in Europe, too.

Meanwhile, Tottenham’s Champions League campaign begins with a trip to Olympiacos on Wednesday.
