Tottenham are keeping tabs on Middlesbrough defender Dael Fry, according to TEAMtalk.

The 22-year-old broke into the Middlesbrough first-team picture as a teenager and became a regular last season, playing 34 times in the Championship. He has made three league appearances so far this term.

TEAMtalk claims Spurs are among a host of clubs interested in Fry, including Manchester City, Everton and Wolves. It is believed the Londoners are following the centre-back ‘very closely’ ahead of a possible January offer.

The report goes on to say that Middlesbrough will sell if they receive offers of over £20 million. Manchester City are likely to pursue a new centre-back in January because of injuries to Aymeric Laporte and John Stones, and Tottenham could be in a similar boat.

Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen will both be six months away from leaving on a free transfer when January comes around. With that in mind, Spurs might decide to sell one of the Belgians and bring in an immediate replacement. Perhaps Fry is being considered as an option.

In today’s market £20 million is relatively cheap, but there will be obvious concerns over Fry’s ability to make the step up to a top Premier League club.

  1. No need to panic buy Sanchez and Foyth along with Tangana,Eyoma and Carter Vickers give plenty of options. The defense needs a rebuild but faith in younger players available needs to be shown.
