Juan Foyth could make his return from an ankle injury in Tottenham’s Carabao Cup game against Colchester United tonight.

The Argentine defender, who returned home early from his honeymoon earlier this summer to attend Spurs’ pre-season tours of both Asia and Germany, has been out of action since suffering a nasty ankle injury during the Audi Cup game against Bayern Munich in July.

Foyth was fancied by Mauricio Pochettino to solve Tottenham’s right-back problems after the club sold Kieran Trippier to La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid and didn’t replace him.

But the 21-year-old has been out of action for almost exactly eight-weeks and will have to dislodge Serge Aurier from the full-back position after the Ivory Coast defender has made a bright start to the campaign and looks first-choice at present.

He wasn’t in the squad for Tottenham’s Premier League defeat at Leicester City at the weekend, but has been named among the substitutes against the League Two outfit and if he comes off the bench it will another huge step in his recovery and his first competitive appearance since he was sent off against Bournemouth in May.
