Tottenham have identified England manager Gareth Southgate as their number one target to replace Mauricio Pochettino, according to The Daily Star.

Southgate, whose Three Lions contract runs until after the 2020 World Cup in Qatar, has been out of club management since he was sacked by Middlesbrough back in 2009.

Those claims come with Pochettino seemingly unsettled at Spurs, with a number of disputes over players contract, which has seen the side make a poor start to the campaign, including their shock Carabao Cup defeat at Colchester United on Tuesday.

Pochettino did relieve the pressure on himself after Tottenham held on for three crucial Premier League points against former side Southampton on Saturday despite playing more than for more than an hour with ten man after Serge Aurier’s 39th minute sending off.

However, the Daily Star are reporting that Spurs, whenever it could be, want the former Middlesbrough and Aston Villa manager to be the Argentine’s successor.

Southgate not only has a great relationship with England captain Harry Kane but also coaches Danny Rose, Eric Dier, Dele Alli and Harry Winks at international level, and handed the latter of those his Three Lions debut against Lithuania in 2017.
