France coach Didier Deschamps has revealed it is unlikely Hugo Lloris will be back in action for Tottenham or his country until 2020.

Lloris dislocated his elbow inside three minutes of Spurs’ 3-0 defeat at Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday. To make matters worse, the incident occurred immediately after the goalkeeper had dropped the ball on his own goal line, allowing Neal Maupay to give Brighton an early lead.

In truth, Lloris has been making errors far too regularly for some time now, but his injury at the Amex Stadium remains a desperately unfortunate moment that could negatively affect both Tottenham and France. Lloris is captain for his club and country, and both will miss his leadership skills while he is sidelined.

On Sunday, Spurs confirmed the nature of the injury but did not put a timeline on his return. However, Deschamps seems relatively certain we will not see Lloris in action again this year.

“It is difficult to say exactly how long he will not be available,” Deschamps said (via AFP).

“What matters to us right now is that he will not be with us for this round of games or for the next.

“Almost certainly, he won’t be back on the pitch in 2019.”

Paulo Gazzaniga will play between the sticks for Tottenham until then, with 21-year-old Alfie Whiteman providing back-up.

  1. At the moment im feeling sorry for Spurs they have just hit a glitch, but Spurs will fight back strong.
Bit bad luck for poor Hugo Lloris against Brighton and hope he recovers soon, Lloris will be badly missed, but Spurs have good cover in Paul Gazzaninga. Lucas Moura should play every 90 minutes along side Harry Kane and Heu ming Son. Hope Mauricio Pochettino stays with Spurs I have faith in the manager, best manager in premier league. Spurs still have Le Selco and Sesingnon to come bac from injury soon.
