Experienced defenders Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose have been dropped from the Tottenham squad for their must-win Champions League clash against Red Star Belgrade.
The pair both played 90 minutes in the 1-1 Premier League draw with Watford on Saturday, but haven’t even been named on the bench against the Serbian outfit.
It means that Mauricio Pochettino has made a total of four changes from the game against the Hornets, recalling record-signing Tanguy Ndombele and Heung Min Son, whilst there are rare starts for both Ben Davies – who is part of a back-four – and Erik Lamela.
Giovani Lo Celso returns to the bench after a six-week lay-off with a hip injury, as does Christian Eriksen, who has shaken off a dead leg which saw him miss out at the weekend, but there is no place in the 18 for Ryan Sessegnon, whose Spurs debut will have to wait.
Tottenham XI: Gazzaniga, Aurier, Sanchez Vertonghen, Davies, Sissoko, Ndombele, Son, Alli, Lamela, Kane.
Subs: Austin, Foyth, Dier, Winks, Lo Celso, Eriksen, Lucas.
