Mauricio Pochettino has hinted he will make changes to the Tottenham side that won in midweek for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Sheffield United.
Spurs thrashed Red Star 4-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday, and there have been calls for Pochettino to stick with the confident-looking side that eased to victory in Belgrade when they face the Blades on Saturday.
The performances of the club’s summer signings – Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon – were particularly impressive, and many supporters hope Pochettino will select Lo Celso ahead of Christian Eriksen again.
But when asked about Lo Celso’s chances of starting in his press conference on Friday, Pochettino suggested there will be changes to the XI because of fitness concerns.
“I need to assess tomorrow morning, it is a short time to recover. Some players suffer small issues and are maybe not fresh enough to play,” said the Tottenham boss (via Football London).
“We have three games in six days. I still need to decide the team for tomorrow.”
Even though Pochettino didn’t specifically say Lo Celso is one of those who suffered a “small issue”, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Argentine midfielder begin Saturday’s match on the bench.
Pochettino likes to keep his players on their toes, and he may not be keen for Lo Celso to play another 90 minutes when he is likely to feature for Argentina during the international break, thus risking a recurrence of his hip problem.
Please keep the same team
