Tottenham have been in touch with the agent of Barcelona midfielder Carles Alena over a possible transfer, according to reports in Spain.
Last week, we relayed a story that suggested Spurs had agreed to sign Alena and Ivan Rakitic in a deal that would have seen Christian Eriksen move in the other direction this summer. Regardless of whether that was true, the exchange failed to materialise.
But Alena’s name has been doing the rounds in Spain ever since, according to Sport Witness. And they have now relayed a report form Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, which claims Tottenham is an option for Alena.
Spurs have apparently contacted the 21-year-old’s agent, who just so happens to be Pochettino’s old teammate and friend, Ivan de la Pena. The former Barcelona and Espanyol midfielder now represents Alena, and it is believed there are offers on the table from Tottenham and another unnamed Premier League side.
AC Milan had also been credited with an interest, but the report suggests the San Siro is no longer an option for Alena. So it looks like it could be a straight shootout between Spurs and an unknown rival.
