Jan Vertonghen and Erik Lamela are both unavailable for Tottenham’s Premier League clash with Sheffield United this weekend, the club has confirmed.

The duo are both sidelined with hamstring injuries that will keep them out until after the international break. Neither player has been called up to play for their countries, meaning they will be continuing their rehabilitation at the Spurs training ground while the majority of their teammates are away.

Tottenham confirmed the absence of Vertonghen and Lamela via Twitter before Mauricio Pochettino’s weekly Premier League press conference on Friday. The post also noted captain Hugo Lloris is continuing his recovery after undergoing surgery on his elbow injury earlier this week – the Frenchman isn’t due back until January.

Other than that, Pochettino has a fully fit squad to choose from. The summer signings – Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon – will all be pushing for starts after impressing against Red Star in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Lo Celso’s emergence as a starting option is well-timed in relation to Lamela’s injury, and thankfully Spurs also have enough cover at centre-back to deal with Vertonghen’s absence.
