Tottenham are preparing a £50 million bid for Lyon star Memphis Depay after extensively scouting the former Manchester United man, according to the Mirror.

Depay scored seven goals in 53 appearances for United but struggled to fully settle in England and left Old Trafford for Lyon in January 2017. Since then he has found the net 50 times in 130 games for Lyon and is considered one of the best players in the French top-flight. He is also a key part of the Netherlands national team.

The Mirror claims Spurs have regularly watched Depay, sending scouts to watch the 25-year-old in recent Champions League fixtures against Benfica, against whom he scored at home and away. In fact, Depay has scored in all four of Lyon’s European outings so far this season.

His form has apparently convinced Tottenham to ready a £50 million offer. Whether Depay is a player Mauricio Pochettino desperately wants or is more of an overall club target is unclear, but it would certainly be an interesting story if the Dutchman returned to the Premier League.

  1. Shoot me. If we did not get Martial ejen he was for the taking, Memphis Aka Depuy is way down the ladder. Why would we do that when Hakeem Niyak or Neres are available.
