Celta Vigo midfielder Brais Mendez has played down speculation about a move to Tottenham.

Mendez, who generally plays on the right of Celta’s midfield, has made 13 La Liga appearances so far this season but is yet to score or provide an assist. The 22-year-old scored six goals and registered seven assists in 31 league outings last term.

In an interview with Spanish outlet AS, who asked Mendez about rumoured interest from Spurs, Mendez insisted he is happy at Celta and claimed he wants to stay at the club.

“I don’t know anything about Tottenham,” Mendez said.

“I’m out of everything, I focus on training and working as well as possible for myself and the team. Whatever has to be in the future, it will be. This is my house, I feel very good here, we know each other We all have many years of friendship and that makes it even better. I want to stay here.”

Mendez made his senior debut for Spain last year, coming on as a substitute in a friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina and scoring the winning goal in a 1-0 victory. However, he hasn’t played for the Spanish senior side since then.

There is a chance Tottenham will dip into the market in January, whether or not Mauricio Pochettino is still at the club. The summer squad overhaul was mostly a failure, and the Londoners are expected to ship some players out after Christmas, which could mean new arrivals. Whether Mendez is a genuine target remains to be seen.
