Tottenham have joined the race to sign Brentford attacking midfielder Said Benrahma, according to the Times.

Benrahma has scored three goals and provided six assists in 20 Championship appearances so far this season, helping Brentford to challenge at the top end of the table.

As spotted by Football League World, the Sunday Times claims Spurs and Aston Villa will battle it out for Benrahma’s signature in the January transfer window.

Villa tried to sign the 24-year-old in the summer but a deal failed to materialise. He has only improved since then, leading to rumoured interest from Tottenham.

Spurs may need a new forward-thinking midfielder in January if Christian Eriksen leaves. Whether Benrahma is good enough to replace the Dane is very much up for debate.

Meanwhile, one Tottenham player could be heading in the opposite direction. The Londoners are said to be willing to sell Cameron Carter-Vickers for just £4 million in January.

The news comes from Football Insider, who suggest Spurs are ready sell the American defender next month. Carter-Vickers is currently on loan at Stoke City and it’s likely he will move to a Championship club if he is sold.

Unfortunately, the 21-year-old hasn’t done enough during his loan spells to prove he is good enough to play for Tottenham. He therefore won’t be a huge loss to the club.
