Tottenham and Arsenal are set to battle it out over the signature of RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, according to the Daily Express.

The 21-year-old centre-back has been in superb form so far this season, making 19 appearances across all competitions as Leipzig continue their challenge for the Bundesliga title. He is set to come up against Spurs in the Champions League Round of 16 in February.

The Express claims Leipzig value Upamecano at £50 million, and Spurs are said to be willing to meet the German club’s asking price in the January transfer window. However, it is believed the Londoners will face competition from fierce rivals Arsenal.

Manchester City are also mentioned as possible suitors. Indeed, all three clubs could do with a new centre-back. Tottenham managed to tie Toby Alderweireld down to a new contract earlier this month, but doubts remain over the futures of Jan Vertonghen and Juan Foyth.

Jose Mourinho has dismissed suggestions Spurs will spend in January, but the potential sale of Christian Eriksen would raise funds that could go towards defensive reinforcements – unless Mourinho would rather sign a direct replacement for Eriksen.

  1. If spurs don’t buy in January they can kiss goodbye to any possibility of a top 4 place as this squad are clearly not up to the task and will probably at best be mid table

  2. Relax everyone, stop conceding so many and we’ll be fine, quality defensive right back required, maybe try foyth there, replacement for jan because his legs have gone, ndomble is gonna be unbelievable in midfield ,preferably alongside a defensive holding player,,we’re always gonna score!!!

  3. Dier, Aurier, Gazza, Foyth and Sanchez not up to the level required and will continue to make mistakes. These guys are beyond coaching imo. Mid table with the current squad. Gone downhill since Dembele left in January.

New right back and centre back is a must b4 anything else.

  4. No need to worry. Our superb manager will exchange Bale got Erikson. Confidence will ecime, kick Chelsea out of the way and surprise, surprise, we’ll have a second club lifting the trophy we should have done last season?!

  5. Dier is a joke. So many stray passes, why Mourinho is bothering with him is beyond me. Then again it’s probably the Portugal connection.
