Tottenham’s poor Premier League run continued at Watford on Saturday – but there was at least some personal joy for Paulo Gazzaniga.
The 28-year-old helped Spurs record their first away clean sheet in the league since the 3-0 victory at Cardiff City on New Year’s Day 2019 with some excellent saves – most notably a second-half stop from Watford captain Troy Deeney’s penalty.
Jan Vertonghen had conceded a spot-kick for hand-balling Gerard Deulofeu’s second-half strike, but the Argentine, who produced heroics in a shoot-out victory over the Hornets in the Carabao Cup last season, made himself the hero by denying Deeney from 12-yards to earn Tottenham a point.
