Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio has confirmed the Italian giants have made an official bid for Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen’s future has been the subject of intense speculation in recent days with Inter believed to be leading the race for his signature. Earlier on Monday, we relayed quotes from the club’s CEO, Giuseppe Marotta, who claimed talks with Eriksen’s agent were underway. And now, Ausilio has revealed the deal has taken another step forward.

“We just made an official bid to Tottenham to sign Christian Eriksen and now we’re waiting,” Ausilio told Sky in Italy, as reported by Fabrizio Romano on Twitter. “Many clubs are interested but we are confident – trying to get a top player like Eriksen.”

Spurs must now decide whether to accept the offer – which Sky Sports say is £11m plus bonuses – or tell Inter to increase their bid. Eriksen is out of contract at the end of the season and is allowed to speak to foreign clubs about a free transfer in the summer. That’s why it’s unlikely he will leave for a big free this month, though Tottenham might demand slightly more than the reported figure.

In any case, it is looking more and more likely Eriksen will leave this month rather than at the end of the season.
