Giovani Lo Celso has taken to social media to express his delight after joining Tottenham on a permanent basis from Real Betis this afternoon.

The 22-year-old midfielder activated a clause in his loan contract and signed a new five-and-a-half year deal, which keeps him at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until the summer of 2025.

Lo Celso endured a difficult start to life in the Premier League and didn’t make his first start for the club until the Champions League victory over Red Star Belgrade in November.

However, since making a crucial impact off the bench against Brighton & Hove Albion on Boxing Day, Lo Celso has been a regular in the side under Jose Mourinho and has shown glimpses of his capability in the win against Norwich City last Wednesday and then at Southampton in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Lo Celso, clearly thrilled to be remaining at Spurs for the foreseeable future, said on Twitter: “I’m really excited to officialise my contract with Spurs and truly grateful to keep on representing this club. Thanks to everyone who makes this possible, and especially to the fans for the support.”

The Argentine then went on to thank his former side Betis, who he spent just one season at after joining from French outfit PSG in the summer of 2020 before scoring 16 goals.

“I also want to take the opportunity to thank and say goodbye to Real Betis, another great club that opened its doors and made me feel at home,” Lo Celso said on Twitter. “Thank you for so many beautiful moments shared.”

  1. Le Celso could be the replacement for Eriksen. Has vision of the game, can pass from central midfield. Welcome to Spurs….

  2. Obvious looking top class.
I wait to see how penguins treat him. Remember how Dembele would try to run 30 metres with the ball and a gorilla pulling his shirt.
