Tottenham have announced the signing of PSV Eindhoven winger Steven Bergwijn on a long-term contract.
The 22-year-old, who was left out of the PSV squad for their game against FC Twente at the weekend and then given permission by the Dutch outfit to travel to London on Tuesday morning, completed the final stages of his medical at Hotspur Way on Tuesday evening and becomes Jose Mourinho’s third signing of the January window – along with Gedson Fernandes and Giovani Lo Celso, who made his loan move permanent yesterday.
According to Sky Sports, Bergwijn will cost Spurs around £25.6m plus add-ons and could make his debut in the Premier League against Manchester City on Sunday.
Bergwijn, who faced Tottenham in the Champions League group stages last season, signed a new four-year contract at PSV in August, but has decided to make the switch to England and has put pen to paper on a five-and-and-half year contract in north London – which will run until the summer of 2025.
The Athletic journalist Oliver Kay is reporting that Bergwijn will train with his new Spurs teammates at Hotspur Way this morning.
