Jose Mourinho has revealed it is likely new Tottenham signing Steven Bergwijn will be given “some minutes” against Manchester City this weekend.

Spurs will be aiming to close the gap on the top four with a win when the champions come to town on Sunday, though it will be no easy task against a side desperate to bounce back from a Manchester derby defeat in midweek.

At the time of writing, Tottenham have not signed the striker Mourinho has craved throughout January as a result of Harry Kane’s injury. But could that mean Bergwijn, the winger who arrived from PSV earlier this week, has more of a chance of featuring against City?

When asked if the Dutchman is available this weekend, Mourinho suggested Spurs’ lack of attacking options means Bergwijn is likely to play a part earlier than expected.

“I think so,” Mourinho said (via Football London). “We have four attacking players, Son, Lucas, Lamela and Steven. So he has to be involved, I’d like to give him more time. Probably the perfect situation would be after the cold, winter break, but that’s not possible. And it’s not a drama because he is playing with PSV so he has match fitness it’s just a question of learning how to play with us. But I don’t think it will be a problem for him to play some minutes.”

If Bergwijn does play, it will be interesting to see how exactly Tottenham line-up. Will it be Bergwijn and Lucas Moura on the wings with Son Heung-min through the middle? Or something different? Let us know what you’d like to see in the comments section below.
