Tottenham plan to sell Eric Dier in the summer if the midfielder does not sign a new contract with the club, according to the Daily Mail.

Dier has struggled for regular minutes over the last couple of seasons because of fitness and form issues. He immediately returned to the starting line-up when Jose Mourinho was appointed in November but has slowly lost his place, with the new Spurs boss seemingly preferring Harry Winks in the holding role – just as Mauricio Pochettino did.

As a result, the Mail claims Dier is reluctant to sign a new contract with Tottenham. The 26-year-old apparently wants assurances about his place in the team, something Mourinho probably can’t give him because of his lacklustre performances.

The report suggests Spurs chairman Daniel Levy does not want yet another player to enter the final year of his contract. Christian Eriksen has just left for a reduced fee for that reason, while Jan Vertonghen is set to depart at the end of the season on a free transfer.

At this point, selling Dier looks like the most likely scenario and Tottenham ought to do it while they can still get a good return on their investment.

  1. That is ridiculous.
How can the club guarantee him a 1st team place when his form in the last 18 months has fallen off a cliff.
I know he has had injury issues and health problems, but his form has been awful; I like Dier a lot and a few seasons back he was ouf best and most consistent player; was also so important to England.
Get your form back and I am pretty sure that you will play regularly for the 1st team; Jose likes you.
It is 100% up to you Eric
