Tottenham could act on their interest in Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips if the Yorkshire club fails to achieve promotion to the Premier League, according to Football Insider.

Phillips has been one of second-place Leeds’ standout performers over the last two seasons, making 32 appearances across all competitions so far this term. The 24-year-old plays in the holding midfield role for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, sometimes dropping into the back line – much like Eric Dier does when he plays that role for Spurs.

Football Insider claims Tottenham were interested in Phillips last summer but the Leeds-born enforcer decided to sign a new contract with his boyhood club. The report suggests his suitors will have little chance of getting him this summer if Leeds achieve promotion to the Premier League.

But it Bielsa’s men fail in their bid to go up, Football Insider believes Spurs will enter the race to sign Phillips. Though there is said to be a ‘race’ for his signature, there is no mention of which other clubs Tottenham will face competition from.

The Londoners arguably need an upgrade on Dier, so Phillips could be viewed as exactly that. He would also improve the squad’s homegrown quota, making him a potential good bit of business – particularly if Spurs chairman Daniel Levy can get him on the cheap.

  1. Absolutely no chance of getting him ‘on the cheap’. Pathetic journalism, given that Man Utd and Leicester are just two of the many clubs showing interest, and that a number of journalists and radio and tv pundits have expressed the view that Kalvin is good enough to be in the England squad !

  2. Why play for a shit team like Tottenham, NEVER WIN Anything with them, there happy picking up there check every year no ambition stay where you are.
