Tottenham’s Dele Alli has been charged by the Football Association for his recent social media post mocking the coronavirus disease.

The 23-year-old has been charged with a breach of the FA Rule E3 in relation to his post on Snapchat over the recent winter-break in which he appeared to mock an Asian man. The FA claim that Alli’s post was insulting and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute.

According to reliable Tottenham journalist Jonathan Veal, the England international has until next Thursday (5 March) to respond to the charge and cannot face a ban before then.

It means that Alli will be available for Sunday’s Premier League game against Wolves and then the FA Cup visit or Norwich City – both of which are at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

If Alli accepts the charge, he is likely to face a one-match ban and could miss the Premier League game against Burnley a week on Saturday. If he appeals and is unsuccessful, the midfielder could miss either Manchester United or West Ham at home.
