Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho is interested in on-loan Rangers midfielder Ianis Hagi, according to agent Giovani Becali.
Hagi, 21, is on loan at Rangers from Genk and has scored six goals in 31 combined appearances this season in Scotland and Belgium.
According to the Daily Record, Rangers have an option to make the move permanent this summer for just £4.5 million. However, Becali – who the Record says is a leading agent in Hagi’s native Romania – seems to think there is major interest from the Premier League.
The agent claims he has been contacted about Hagi by Spurs boss Mourinho and Manchester City director of football Txiki Begiristain.
“I have been asked personally by Jose Mourinho and Txiki Begiristain about Ianis Hagi,” Becali said.
“They wanted to know about him and how he was getting on.
“So there’s a lot of top people in European football who know all about Ianis and what he can do.
“I happen to think Ianis is on a good plan at Rangers. I think Rangers will sign him because he is a player who has that little extra piece of creativity and skill.”
Hagi would certainly be an affordable option for Tottenham, who might be looking for an attacking midfielder to provide competition for Giovani Lo Celso and Erik Lamela this summer.
If Mourinho really has been in touch with Becali over the player then there may be legs to this one, though we are yet to see Spurs’ interest reported elsewhere.
