Tottenham are interested in signing Ajax and 2018 African Goalkeeper of the Year Andre Onana, but could face competition from both Barcelona and Chelsea for his signature, according to Sport.
The Cameroonian international, who came through the ranks at the Nou Camp, joined the Dutch champions in July 2015 and since being promoted from Ajax’s reserve team has gone on to make more than 150 appearances for the Amsterdam outfit, helping them win their 34th Eredivisie title in 2018-2019, in which he was named in Team of the Year.
Given his previous links with Barcelona, a return to the Spanish capital remains possible, although his opportunities for first-team football would most likely be limited – with Marc-Andre Stergen Barca’s standout number one at present.
According to the report, Jose Mourinho is very interested in signing Onana, whose current deal expires in 2022, especially with all three of his senior goalkeepers under performing this season.
Onana previously admitted in an interview with BBC Sport back in November that he’d be open to a move to the Premier League, meaning a move to North London already looks more favourable, especially with Ajax wiling to set at the right price – with Sport revealing that the Dutch giants are valuing him at around £40m and would be happy to negotiate.
