Tottenham have joined the list of clubs interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic this summer, according to reports in Spain.

Rakitic has found a starting place hard to come by since Barcelona signed Dutch starlet Frenkie de Jong, but he has still made 31 appearances across all competitions so far this season.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claims Jose Mourinho has asked the Spurs hierarchy to bring in Rakitic this summer to bolster his squad. The Croatian has two years remaining on his current Barcelona deal.

The report goes on to say Tottenham will face competitions for Rakitic’s signature from the likes of Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Napoli. The 32-year-old apparently wants to wait to make his decision, so a a move is unlikely to be agreed any time soon.

Last week we relayed a Sky Sports story suggesting Barcelona are willing to offer defenders Samuel Umtiti and Nelson Semedo in exchange for Spurs midfielder Tanguy Ndombele. If Mourinho genuinely wants Rakitic, perhaps he will be happy to send Ndombele in the other direction.
