Brazil legend Rivaldo has suggested moving to Tottenham would be a good next career step for Chelsea midfielder Willian.

According to the Daily Star, Willian – who is out of contract this summer – is attracting interest from Spurs, Barcelona, Arsenal and Juventus. It is believed the Brazilian wanted a new three-year deal from Chelsea but the Blues were unwilling to agree terms.

If Willian decides to stay in London, Rivaldo believes Tottenham would be a better move for the 31-year-old than joining Arsenal.

“Willian is attracting some headlines in England as his contract with Chelsea is expiring this summer and there are strong rumours that he may move to a London rival soon,” Rivaldo told Betfair.

“Yes, Willian is already playing at a big club, but he has been there for a long time and perhaps he needs a new challenge to recapture his will and motivation at this point in his career in the Premier League.

“A move to Tottenham could be a good option, especially because Willian would reunite with his former coach Jose Mourinho there, and the pair seem to have a good relationship.

“Furthermore, we all know that Mourinho has a special affection for Brazilian players and I am sure he would give lots of opportunities to Willian at Spurs.”

Willian and Mourinho won the Premier League together at Stamford Bridge in 2014/15, a campaign during which the former scored two goals in 36 appearances. He has since become more clinical in front of goal, often playing as part of a front three for Chelsea.

Spurs could do with a bit more depth in the attacking midfield positions following Christian Eriksen’s January exit. Willian can also play out wide, which would be useful if Mourinho wants his back line to primarily defend.
