Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell is a ‘priority’ transfer target for Tottenham this summer, according to reports in France.
Chilwell has four years remaining on his current contract with Leicester, who look set to beat Spurs to a Champions League qualification spot when the Premier League resumes.
He has scored twice in 23 league appearances this season and has overtaken Tottenham’s Danny Rose – currently on loan at Newcastle United – as England’s first-choice left-back.
And French outlet Foot Mercato believes Chilwell is near the top of Jose Mourinho’s list of defensive targets.
The report claims Spurs are looking at West Ham United centre-back Issa Diop and a pair of right-backs: Paris Saint-Germain’s Thomas Meunier and Norwich City’s Max Aarons.
It then goes on to reveal Chilwell is Mourinho’s ‘priority’ left-back target and that the 23-year-old will provide competition for Ben Davies and Ryan Sessegnon in the Tottenham squad if signed.
Davies has been Mourinho’s preference on the left of the back four thus far, with Sessegnon playing occasionally as both a left-back and a winger. Chilwell is arguably better placed than both of the current options to be a regular in the team.
Looks like Ben is in demand.
He’s good player, Im not surprised!
