Tottenham are interested in signing Atletico Madrid defender Stefan Savic, according to reports in Spain.
Savic, who has made 19 appearances across all competitions so far this season, has two years remaining on his current contract. Spurs fans may remember the 29-year-old from his time at Manchester City.
Spanish outlet Todofichajes claims Jose Mourinho is keen on signing Savic as a possible replacement for Jan Vertonghen. It is believed the Spurs boss wants an experienced centre-back this summer and Savic is said to be the club’s first-choice target.
Vertonghen is out of contract at the end of June and doesn’t appear to be any closer to agreeing a deal to stay with Tottenham, hence the need for a new central defender.
Todofichajes believes Atletico are willing to listen to offers for Savic, valuing the Montenegro international at €15 million, which should be in Spurs’ price range.
If Savic does arrive, he will be competing with Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez for a place in the starting line-up, while Juan Foyth and Japhet Tanganga will also be hoping for game time next term if they remain at the club.
