Jose Mourinho has called off contract talks between Tottenham and Jan Vertonghen, according to the Daily Express.
Vertonghen is out of contract at the end of June and could play his final games for Spurs when the Premier League restarts later this month. The Belgian has been at the club since the summer of 2012 but his eight-year stay appears to be coming to an end.
Last week we relayed a story from Spanish outlet Todofichajes claiming Mourinho is keen on signing Atletico Madrid defender Stefan Savic as a possible replacement for Vertonghen.
And now, the Express is reporting that discussions over a new deal for the 33-year-old have been called off by Mourinho, with Serie A side Fiorentina ready to offer a contract to Vertonghen when his Tottenham deal ends.
Inter Milan and Real Betis are also said to be keen on the former Ajax centre-back, who has struggled to rediscover his form of old this season. Regardless of where he ends up, it certainly looks like Vertonghen won’t be a Spurs player for much longer.
