Tottenham’s game against Manchester United is set headline the opening weekend of the Premier League return on Friday Night Football later this month.
Aston Villa vs Sheffield United and Arsenal’s game at Manchester City will mark the official return on Wednesday 17 June – with Spurs’ crucial clash against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men expected to be played two days later, and will be shown live on Sky Sports, according to the Evening Standard.
It will be the second time that Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho will face his former side since his sacking in December 2018 after Spurs’ 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford 12 months later, and the Portuguese will be boosted by the return of key players in Moussa Sissoko, Steven Bergwijn, Heung Min Son Harry Kane, who should all be available for selection for the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Spurs go into the game four points behind their rivals, and know that given Manchester City’s potential two-year European ban, a fourth victory in five home matches against the Red Devil’s could move see them move within a single point of a Champions League place.
The full Premier League schedule is yet to be officially announced, but with ‘Project Restart’ moving ever closer, the full remaining fixture list should be confirmed in the coming days.
