Eric Dier is close to signing a new contract with Tottenham, according to the Football Insider.

The 26-year-old, who joined Spurs for £2million from Sporting Lisbon in 2014, has just 12 months left on his current deal and looked set make a move away from the club this summer after a inconsistent campaign which has seen him make just 10 Premier League starts.

The majority of those came when Jose Mourinho first came to the club, but Dier failed to nail down a starting place in midfield and was notably taken off by the Tottenham boss just 29 minutes into the Champions League victory over Olympiacos back in November.

Dier went almost two months without a league start between December and February, but since coming back into the side against Aston Villa, the England midfielder has started all five matches in all competitions and has looked far more impressive playing at centre-back, a position he is likely to continue playing when the Premier League restarts.

And Dier’s impressive form has clearly changed the mind of Mourinho and the Spurs hierarchy, who according to Football Insider, have opened talks over fresh terms and are eager to sort his contract situation and avoid another Christian Eriksen situation.

What are your thoughts on Dier possibly extending his stay at Tottenham. Would you be happy to keep him, or should the club cash in? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

  1. In mine opinion Spurs should sell ( rep. get rid of) this summer Lloris, Vorm,WalkerP, Vertonghen,Rose, CarterV, Foyth, Dier, Lamela and Alli. All together for about 150 m. Bring in Cacir, Aarons, a proven central defender , Willian, and the most important: Grealish. Together that will cost about the same 150m. Furthermore should be brought into the squuad from the academy: Wallcott, Tanganga,Cirkin,Bowden and Parrott

  2. Your right to much dead wood at spurs need young lads with pace and desire
    Save loads on wages
