Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is set to be benched by boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for their Premier League return against Tottenham on Friday, according to the Daily Mail.
The 27-year-old hasn’t played for United since suffering an ankle injury in the Boxing Day win over Newcastle, which saw the Frenchman miss almost three months of action – missing 19 matches in all competitions for the Red Devils.
However, with the Coronavirus pandemic causing a three-month suspension in the Premier League, the 2018 World Cup winner has recovered from that problem and is ready to make his long-awaited return to action at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
But the report from the Daily Mail reckons that Pogba’s first start for six months will have to wait – with Solskjaer expected to go with a three-man midfield of Fred and ex-Spurs target Bruno Fernandes, with either Scott McTominay or Nemanja Matic, meaning Pogba will most likely be on the bench in north London.
United are at full strength, but Jose Mourinho will be without defender Japhet Tanganga, but will be hoping to call upon midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, despite the Argentine missing the friendly against Norwich City on Friday and in the in-house training match the week before.
