Lucas Moura was omitted from Tottenham’s squad to face Manchester United on Friday night after picking up an injury in training, according to reports.

Journalists including PA Sport’s Jonathan Veal revealed the reason for Lucas’ absence not long after the Spurs team was announced.

Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Moussa Sissoko have all returned to the line-up having recovered from injuries during the coronavirus-induced break. January arrival Steven Bergwijn is also fit again and back in the team.

But Lucas’ omission came as surprise when the team news was published given he had been starting regularly before the Premier League was put on hold.

In truth, the Brazilian’s starting spot was under threat with many of his fellow injured attackers returning. Erik Lamela also seems to be a Jose Mourinho favourite and is in the XI this evening – whether a fit Lucas would have played instead of Lamela is up for debate.

In any case, Tottenham fans will be hoping Lucas’ injury isn’t a bad one as Mourinho needs as many options as possible to make the difference from the bench.
