Jose Mourinho has denied having a disagreement with Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele – and revealed that he didn’t need the Frenchman in their opening two Premier League games since the campaign restarted.

Ndombele hasn’t played a single minute in either of Spurs’ matches against Manchester United and West Ham, and Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealed that Ndombele didn’t even warm up at any point during the 2-0 victory against the Hammers on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old missed five matches in January with a groin injury, but has featured in just 13 of Tottenham’s 28 games under Mourinho – making just five starts.

Reports from Telefoot prior to the West Ham game suggested that he had told Mourinho that he no longer wishes to play under the Portuguese in a meeting earlier this week.

However, when asked whether there has been a rift between the pair, Mourinho said: “No. On the bench was Tanguy, Sessegnon, Toby, Vertonghen, Gedson and they didn’t play. That’s football. For me there’s nothing.

“I had attacking players on the bench, Lamela and Bergwijn. Two great players to bring on and then Winks to give us more consistency. This situation of the five changes, some people maybe think that you have to use all five changes. You don’t have to do it. You have the chances to do it.
