Tanguy Ndombele wants to remain at Tottenham – with the club not wanting to keep him this summer – despite widespread reports of a fallout between the French midfielder and Jose Mourinho, according to The Athletic.

Ndombele, who joined Spurs for a record-fee from Lyon last summer, has endured a tough opening 12 months in the Premier League and hasn’t been given a single minute in either of Tottenham’s two games since the restart of English football last week.

Mourinho revealed after the West Ham victory that the reason for his exclusion was nothing personal and that the 23-year-old simply wasn’t required. That came just days after Telefoot reported that Ndombele had told the Portuguese that he no longer wishes to play under him.

However, despite those claims, the pair were both pictured at training on Thursday – with The Athletic suggesting that Ndombele is focusing on fighting for his place in Mourinho’s side, although he is unlikely to start when Tottenham return to action against Sheffield United on Thursday.

This all came after Mourinho had initially praised the midfielder for his fitness amid the return of the Premier League after previously slamming Ndombele for his performance in Spurs’ last league game before lockdown at Burnley.
