Birmingham City are edging closer to signing Tottenham winger Jack Clarke on loan, according to the Birmingham Mail.
Clarke joined Spurs from Leeds United last summer but was immediately sent back to Elland Road on loan. After struggling for minutes at his boyhood club, the teenager’s loan was cut short and he spent the second half of the season at QPR – he didn’t fare much better in terms of game time at Loftus Road.
Jose Mourinho used Clarke in Tottenham’s pre-season campaign but it seems he didn’t quite do enough to earn a place in the first-team squad for the coming season. And now the 19-year-old appears to be heading back to the Championship.
The Birmingham Mail claims Birmingham are set to secure a season-long loan for Clarke. Aitor Karanka, who was Mourinho’s assistant at Real Madrid, is the current Blues boss, so it’s likely their relationship played a part in Clarke’s destination.
Spurs fans will hope Clarke gets on the pitch more often than last term and fulfils his potential ahead of a return to north London next summer.

A wise man once said “you should surround yourself by people better than you in your job”. Jack needs to go to a decent team in the EPL or overseas. Not some substandard rubbish which will just hold him back in development.
I disagree. Kyle Walker developed into a tottenham first teamer on loan at Aston Villa, Danny Rose at Sunderland, Kane at various loan spells (millwall being one of the better ones), dele at mk dons. Players develop to premier league level mostly from playing with adults, because there seems a huge gap between youth team level and adult level in physicality etc. Thats where clarke currently is in his development, you can see there is raw ability there, but he needs to improve physically, get game experience and build his confidence. Hes not at a level yet where he should be competing for a place with son, bale, alli, lamela, bergwijn or even lucas. Thats a battle he cant win at the moment and will only serve to ruin his confidence and stifle his development. Once he develops to a level where he can start pushing for a place in the team, then he can start to learn from better players and refine his game.
