Tottenham player ratings: Son and Kane both 10s against Southampton

Heung Min Son scored four times as Tottenham came from behind to thrash Southampton 5-2 at St Mary’s Stadium.

Danny Ings put the Saints ahead just past the half hour mark before the South Korean struck four times in 28 minutes either side of the break, all of which were assisted by Harry Kane.

Kane then got himself on the scoresheet eight minutes from time to complete the victory before Ings scored Southampton’s second from the penalty spot.

Here’s how we rated the players on the day:

Hugo Lloris, 6 – Made a sensational early stop from Che Adams, but should have done better for Ings’ goal. Redeemed himself with another sharp stop in the second-half, but dived the wrong way for the penalty.

Matt Doherty, 6 – Improved as the game went on and was unfortunate to concede a late penalty.

Davinson Sanchez, 6 – Surprise inclusion ahead of Toby Alderweireld, but didn’t do too much wrong and played a key pass for Kane for Son’s third.

Eric Dier, 5 – All over the place for the opening goal and was generally nervy throughout.

Ben Davies, 6 – Good defensively and made a crucial goal-saving block early on.

Harry Winks, 5 – Similar to Everton last Sunday. Looks out of place at present and him and Hojbjerg clearly doesn’t work.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, 6 – Doesn’t look the most confident in possession, but protected the back-four well after the break.

Tanguy Ndombele, 6 – Handed his first start since March and began the game brightly before his performance became slightly sloppy. However, the Frenchman showed his quality on the stroke of half-time, producing a scintillating piece of skill to create Spurs’ equaliser. On a yellow card, he was replaced off at the break, though.

Lucas Moura, 4 – Poor before he was deservedly hooked for Lamela on the hour-mark.

Heung Min Son 10, – Quiet in the opening 44 minutes, but his afternoon took a ridiculous turn for the better in first-half stoppage-time when he equalised. Son produced three more clinical finishes after half-time to score the first Premier League hat-trick of his career.

Harry Kane, 10 – One of his best displays in a Spurs shirt. Had two early efforts ruled out for offside, but reacted by produced some outstanding passes to assist all four of Son’s goals and capped off a wonderful afternoon by scoring Spurs’ fifth from close-range.

Substitutes:

Giovani Lo Celso, 7 – Unfortunate not to start, but introduced at the break and was straight into the action, finding Kane with a fine pass in the build-up to Son’s second.

Erik Lamela, N/A – Involved in the fifth goal as his effort was saved by Alex McCarthy before Kane was on hand to convert from close-range.

Steven Bergwijn, N/A – Replaced Kane late on.
