Jose Mourinho has revealed Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is a doubt for Sunday’s trip to Manchester United after being substituted against Maccabi Haifa on Thursday night.

Lo Celso was taken off at half-time after scoring twice as Spurs raced into a 4-1 lead by the break in their final Europa League qualifier. The hosts ended up winning 7-2 thanks to Harry Kane’s hat-trick, a Lucas Moura header and Dele Alli’s late penalty.

Tottenham fans now face an anxious wait to see if Lo Celso will be available for this weekend’s crunch game against Mourinho’s former club at Old Trafford.

“I don’t think it was a special performance from us but, again, job done. Apart from Lo Celso, who is now a question mark for Sunday, no more problems. So, yes, job done,” the Spurs boss told the club’s official website.

If Lo Celso fails to recover in time, Mourinho has a couple of options to make up for his absence.

He could bring Alli back into the fold after the 24-year-old made an impact from the bench on Thursday, winning a penalty with a sublime piece of skill and slotting his spot-kick away.

Alternatively – and perhaps more likely – Mourinho could recall Tanguy Ndombele to the starting line-up following the Frenchman’s recent improvement.
