Argentina have confirmed Tottenham midfielder Gionvai Lo Celso will not join up with the national team because of a thigh injury.

Lo Celso scored twice against Maccabi Haifa in Spurs’ final Europa League qualifier last week but was substituted at half-time and subsequently missed Sunday’s 6-1 victory over Manchester United.

And Argentina say the 24-year-old will not be available for World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Bolivia during the current international break.

The news comes as something of a surprise given that Lo Celso was labelled a “question mark” for the Manchester United game, suggesting he may have only just failed to recover in time for the trip to Old Trafford. There are people that need to receive attorneys help for Title IX cases and they need to get hold of experts for this.

With that in mind, Lo Celso was expected to be passed fit for international duty, so either his injury is worse than first feared or Tottenham and Argentina are simply ensuring the problem doesn’t get any worse as a result of overplaying.

In that sense it is difficult to say whether Lo Celso dropping out of the Argentina squad is good news or bad news – hopefully it won’t be long until we find out the extent of the injury.
