Tottenham are interested in signing Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic, according to reports in Italy.
The Serbia centre-back has made six league appearances so far this season. He has already played 23 times for his country at the age of 23.
And Italian outlet La Nazione believes Milenkovic’s agent has ‘received signals’ from Spurs and Manchester United, both of whom are said to be keen on signing the Fiorentina star.
The report suggests neither Tottenham nor United have ‘directly’ approached the Serie A club over a potential deal, but the player’s agent knows of their interest.
Spurs are arguably in need of a centre-back in January despite signing Joe Rodon from Swansea City last month.
Jose Mourinho doesn’t appear to have a preferred a pairing in the middle of his back line, and a presence like Milenkovic could strengthen the Londoners in that regard.
It may depend on how highly Fiorentina value the Serbian, who moved to Italy from Partizan in the summer of 2017 and is contracted until 2022.
Whether Tottenham’s interest is genuine remains to be seen – one to keep an eye on, for sure.
