Harry Winks will remain at Tottenham beyond the January transfer window despite his lack of game time this season, according to Football London.
On Friday we relayed a Telegraph story that claimed Winks is set for talks with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy about his future with a view to a possible January exit.
The midfielder looked unhappy after being substituted against Royal Antwerp on Thursday – he is now struggling for minutes in the Europa League on Thursday.
But it sounds like Jose Mourinho will be able to count on Winks until the end of the campaign at least.
Football London believes there is ‘no chance’ the 24-year-old will depart next month, citing his usefulness to the squad and homegrown status as reasons Tottenham want to keep hold of him.
That makes plenty of sense. If Winks leaves, Spurs will need a replacement, and that replacement would potentially take time to settle in – why wouldn’t the Londoners simply keep Winks and re-assess his situation next summer?
Thankfully that seems to be the likely scenario. Let’s just hope Winks is happy playing second fiddle for a few more months.
