Erik Lamela has stepped up his recovery from a calf injury and returned to training with his Tottenham teammates ahead of the festive period.

The Argentine has been sidelined since the start of the November international break and has seen his return date repeatedly pushed back in recent weeks.

But it looks like Lamela could feature sooner rather than later after posting a picture of himself in training to Instagram with the caption: “Finally I’m back with the team… let’s go.”

It’s unclear when the 28-year-old will be able to return to action – it’s possible he will need to rebuild some fitness before stepping out on the pitch again.

But Spurs could certainly do with him in contention to play with the fixtures coming thick and fast moving into the New Year.

The Londoners face Stoke City in the League Cup quarter-final on Wednesday night before a trip to Wolves this weekend.

If Lamela is unavailable for either of those games, Tottenham will perhaps pencil in the home match against Fulham on December 30 as a fixture in which Lamela can be given some minutes.

    • The effort he give once he is health, much more than some. The club is doing the right thing. Sometines its not always about selling a player. Lamela and Sissoko will alwayz endare themselves managers because they never grip and give 110%
