As reported by Sky Sports on Friday and relayed by us, Tottenham’s Premier League visit to Villa Park on Wednesday is in doubt because of a coronavirus outbreak among the Aston Villa first-team squad.
And now, the Athletic’s David Ornstein is reporting that the Premier League is considering officially postponing the match and re-scheduling Spurs’ previously cancelled game against Fulham for the same night.
Tottenham were supposed to play Fulham over the festive period but positive Covid-19 tests at Craven Cottage brought an end to the chances of that one happening.
Now the Premier League is apparently in talks with all parties about playing the match on Wednesday – but there is a potential snag.
Ornstein says Fulham are ‘understood to be unhappy’ about the situation as they played 120 minutes in the FA Cup over the weekend and will have had little time to prepare for the trip to Spurs.
The situation also depends on Fulham’s London derby against Chelsea, scheduled for this Friday, being pushed back to Saturday.
It seems there are a lot of creases to be ironed out before we know whether Tottenham will play Fulham on Wednesday night, and time is running out to make a decision.
