Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Harry Winks will be staying at Tottenham in January.
Sky Sports reported earlier this week that the Spurs and England midfielder has been the subject of interest from Valencia – with the La Liga outfit keen on signing Winks on loan for the rest of the season.
Winks has found game-time in the Premier League extremely hard to come by in recent months, although the 24-year-old has started Tottenham’s previous two league matches, plus the Carabao Cup quarter-final tie victory at Stoke before Christmas.
However, prior to appearing in the second-half of the defeat to Leicester in December, the midfielder had gone more than two months without appearing in the Premier League, raising concerns over his short-term future, especially with the European Championships coming up this summer.
Mourinho was asked in his pre-match press conference for Wednesday’s game with Fulham if there’s any chance that Winks could be leaving the club in January.
The Spurs boss told Football.London: “He’s played the last matches. He didn’t play the last one, was a decision to let play other players like Gedson and players that are not basically playing many minutes.
“Tomorrow’s he’s selected again. And if somebody is speaking with other clubs, my advice is don’t lose [waste] your time, don’t lose your time because he’s going nowhere.”
