Tottenham are interested in signing Southampton defender Janick Vestergaard this summer, according to the Mirror.

Vestergaard, who joined Southampton from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2018, has made 21 appearances in the Premier League so far this season, scoring three goals – not bad for a centre-back.

The 28-year-old will be out of contract at the end of next season, so Southampton risk losing him on a free transfer if they don’t sell in the upcoming transfer window.

And the Mirror claims Spurs are the club currently most interested in a swoop.

Jose Mourinho is said to be keen on a move for Vestergaard, who would undoubtably improve Tottenham’s centre-back options.

The Spurs boss has settled on a preferred centre-back partnership of Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld in recent games, but the pair’s form has been erratic – as has Eric Dier’s.

Joe Rodon is coming through but has also looked shaky at times. Vestergaard would add experience and confidence on the ball to Tottenham’s back line.

The Londoners should absolutely go for the Denmark international at the right price.
