Tottenham are in talks with Roberto Martinez , according to Sky Sports.
The north London outfit are still working their way through a list of candidates having failed to name a replacement for Jose Mourinho, who was sacked ahead of the Carabao Cup final.
Interim head coach Ryan Mason guided Spurs to a seventh-place finish and the UEFA Conference League, but isn’t expected to take the reigns on a full-time basis.
The likes of Graham Potter, Ralf Rangnick and even Mauricio Pochettino have been mentioned, but Sky Sports believe that the Tottenham hierarchy are considering a move for the former Everton manager, who’s currently with Belgium preparing for Euro 2020.
Martinez has previously mentioned about returning to club management having been out of the game since his sacking from Everton in 2016, following two consecutive 11th-place finishes.
He impressed with both Swansea and Wigan, which included a remarkable FA Cup triumph, but Martinez teams have generally struggled defensively, something Spurs will be looking to improve on after a poor campaign at the back under Mourinho.
Martinez is not the finished article. We need a top coach who knows both sides of the game I would go for poch if he is available but I would bring in a top attacking coach like Robbie Kean as his assistant to work alongside Chris and Ledley. Jurgen Klinsmann would be another option but believe he is too settled in America.
Please do not appoint Martinez, his spell at Wigan and Everton were very average. If we can bring back Pochettino then it has to be a a no brainier. Tottenham punched above their weight under his leadership and was made a scapegoat by Levy. Levy should have taken the blame for not backing Pochettino and then he appoints The so called special one. His spell at Man U was toxic, he then gets the sack and Levy in his wisdom appoints him. Levy’s decision making on transfers is also very questionable and I don’t trust him to bring in the right man. In my view Spurs will never amount to anything under his leadership.
Oh dave what are you talking about. If we can bring poch back. This is the man who when he left we were 15th in the league. So after a pandemic with little or no money to back poch bring him back. In a one horsed league he finished second with psg. Poch is not the answer remember when Jurgen came back it did not work. It hardly ever does and it would mean levy taking a lot of egg for sacking him even though at the time it was the correct decision. Don’t ask me who the right person is cause I don’t know but in a field of 10 we will pick the one wrong one you can be sure of that and he won’t get backed.
Spursnut d of course you are entitled to your opinion and the last few months did not go well with Poch but prior to that, we were in the top four during most of his reign. A lot of the England team were made up of players from Southampton and Spurs. He gives Youth a chance and his style of play was a pleasure to watch. We now have only one player in the 33 man squad picke by Southgate and I believe that speaks volumes. It’s healthy to disagree but Poch is still my first choice. Sadly I do not think it will happen though.
Totally agree with all you say.Imagine Pochettino back and given 150 m to use plus all money from sales as Levy and Lewis acceptance of they got it wrong again!.
Let’s face it whoever comes has a rebuild to deal with, so why not bring in a young manager and stick with him for say four years and assess the situation then.
I know most people would really be surprised if they were to appoint Scot Parker but I really think he would be the one if we are going to rebuild.
He knows most of the young players as he was there with them for a while.
He’s a bit of a legend at the club and knows his way around it to, Eddie Howe is another with a proven record in the championship and then carried it through to the premiership and did an amazing job in keeping Bournemouth in that league for as long as he did, so someone young please that’s if we are not looking for a quick fix.
Poch last two years were poor go and try to get conte or rogers sell the dross if anyone wants them need players who pass the ball to each other not the other team defenders who can defend its a easy game to play why do they try to make things so hard
Bringing in martinez would be the biggest F U to fans since firing poch, or trying to join the ESL.
Martinez has proven enough times that he cant coach a defence, and we have defensive issues. Martinez also dropped prime dembele for china league axel witsel, which would point to why his defences are so poor.
I think this is a tall tale.
Hope they do not go for Potter not a suitable candidate, unless his first name is Harry, that would be the only chance we would have in producing any magic on the pitch at present.
