Tottenham could make a move for AS Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrino this summer, according to The Athletic.
Last month we relayed a report from Italian outlet La Repubblica, relayed by The Express, that claimed Spurs were keen on Pellegrini but faced competition from Liverpool.
At the time, Tottenham were being strongly linked with former Roma manager Paulo Fonseca, so the Pellegrini talk made sense.
However, the Londoners eventually appointed Nuno Espirito Santo as their new head coach instead of Fonseca, and there has been little word on Pellegrini since.
But it seems Spurs could still hold an interest in the 25-year-old.
The Athletic believes a move could be made if Tottenham are willing to trigger Pellegrini’s £25.6 million release clause.
It remains to be seen whether the Italy international is a part of new Roma manager Jose Mourinho’s plans.
Mourinho probably isn’t keen on letting an important player leave for the club that sacked him relatively recently, but he might not be able to control the situation.
In any case, Pellegrini would be a very useful signing for Spurs, giving Nuno’s midfield more depth.
